- September! The beginning of fall, school and school athletics. And
- unfortunately the beginning of unnecessary sports-related injuries to the
- mouth and face. The members of the American Association of Oral and
- Maxillofacial Surgeons would like to see helmets, face masks, and mouth
- guards, every kind of protective gear that reduces the risk of injury, become
- standard issue for every team and athletic activity. To this end they have
- produced a new safety pamphlet, entitled "Sports Safety" that you may wish to
- read. It includes information about the safety equipment that should be used
- in many sports, including football, baseball, ice hockey, lacrosse and others.
- Five criteria for use in fitting a mouth protector are also included, useful
- information for those who have children involved in sports as well as for the
- athletes themselves. New synthetic materials make these mouthpieces both
- efficient protection, as well as light weight and comfortable. For information
- on preventive measures and protective gear for children, you can call
- 1-800-467-5268, to request your copy of this pamphlet.
